Recordings of Dick and the Pickflickers
September 25, 2004 (George's place, Austin, Texas)
Roster: Richard Ayers, Wesley Bohannon, Danny Johnson, George Kaupas, Brad Newberry
Third time recording ourselves. New house, lots of hard surfaces, cranky microphone, bass not amplified right, and even the wireless card in the laptop was injecting static into its own "mix".
Listen to the full set or select an individual song below:
- Castanets (Alejandro Escovedo)
- let's say we were ALL soloing in the middle, rather than getting out of sync...
- Baby, Let's Play House (Aurthur Gunther)
- Feel a Whole Lot Better (Gene Clark)
- King's Highway (Tom Petty)
- after Danny politely suggested (again) that we separate the guitar amps from the rest of the mix
- I Wish It Was Christmas Today (Horatio Sanz and Jimmy Fallon from Saturday Night Live)
- as always, we need more J. Brad and less Brad J. (the first barking dog) and Pippin (the barking puppy)
- The Kids Are Alright (Pete Townsend)
- Richard nails the harmony, but that George guy was really "exploring the space" with his voice; J. Brad channels Entwhistle
- Never Did No Wanderin' (New Main Street Singers)
- first attempt, and we nailed it, right down to the "retarded" ending, didn't we?
- The Image of Me (Wayne Kemp)
- J. Brad on bass; Richard successfully cracking George up; probably the peak of the evening (after about 3.5 hours, for future reference)
- Dance With Me Tonight (Scott Rogness and Rick Elias)
- The Damage You've Done (Tom Petty)
- Big Boss Man (Al Smith and Luther Dixon)
- J. Brad on bass again, and Brad J. barking again, right in the middle of Danny's solo
- Handle With Care (Traveling Wilburys)
- Danny on slide guitar; everyone pretty tired by this point
- Under the Milky Way (Steve Kilbey)
- everyone exhausted by this point, but we needed Wes and his EBow to take us out!
